Tool | Back |
Type: | Constraint tool |
Primary fire: | You click the entity then click on something (or world) that is in the direction you want the line for the slider to go. |
Secondary fire: | Right click an entity and it will create the slider line perpendicular to the surface you clicked. |
Notes: | Useful for elevators, sliding doors and death traps. |
Brief
A slider creates a path along a straight line for an object to travel.
Instructions
- Primary-fire at a point on an object
- Primary-fire at a point on an object or anywhere in the map
The resulting "rail" is a line drawn from the first point to the second point. The object can now move only along this rail.
- or -
- Secondary-fire at a point on an object
Using this method, the "rail" will extend outwards, perpendicular to the face of the object that was fired at, until it hits a wall or prop. The object can now move only along this rail.
Variables
- Rail Type
- Determines what the rail looks like.
- Rail Width
- Determines how wide the rail looks.
- Force Limit
- Determines how much force the rail can take before it breaks.
Useful hints
- The most obvious uses of a slider are for trams, trains, elevators, and other transportation systems. They have some more unique uses as well, such as guiding missiles or bombs to a target.
- In Gmod10, sliders between props can now move. So yes, you can now build an elevator from the ground to the gondola of your flying base, and actually have it move. Just don't connect the slider to something stationary, like the ground.
- Sliders no longer have friction in Gmod10. You can overcome this with creative use of props and other constraints such as the winch or elastic bands.
- The default slider rails are a tad ugly and obtrusive. Turning down the rail width to 0.00 will make the rail completely invisible, a handy trick for those looking to eliminate those nasty lines.
- The most popular slider contraption is an elevator, this can be done any number of ways, but a common one is simply using the open Cargo container on a slider with Thrusters. The use of Pod Vehicles makes the trip slightly less fatal for the occupants.
