When you first download Garry's Mod, you have what is called a clean install. This means you have no addons installed with the game. While addons can improve the game experience, badly written ones can cause problems and errors. This first section of the guide is in aid of those who have problems with bad addons, and details how to remove them from your system.

If you have addons you wish to keep, but still want to clean your Garry's Mod, see this article.

If you have no addons, or just don't want to clean your Garry's Mod, skip this step and go straight to step two.

1. Delete Almost Everything

Find your Garry's Mod folder.

or Finder\USER\Library\Application Support\Steam\SteamApps\USERNAME\

Delete the "garrysmod" folder.

This will not require you to re-download the game, as Steam will extract the necessary folders when you next run Garry's Mod

2. Delete Everything

Follow the instructions in 1. Delete Almost Everything, then go to your Steam Library and right-click on Garry's Mod.

Select "Delete Local Content" and Steam will remove all traces of GMod from your computer.

This will require you to re-download and Re-install the game, but will give you a clean install.

3. Delete Unnecessary Things

Locate your Garry's Mod content folders.

or Finder\USER\Library\Application Support\Steam\SteamApps\USERNAME\garrysmod\garrysmod\

Delete everything except Models, Materials, Particles, Screenshots, Sound, and Shaders.
