Downloading Maps
To be able to use a map, you need to have downloaded it frst! The best place to of this is from GarrysMod.org. You'll need to create a (free) account first, and quickly verify you own Garry's Mod before you can download anything from the site.
"{MAP_NAME}" resembles the name of your chosen map.
Using Internet Explorer 7+
- Find an map you like from GarrysMod.org.
- Once you find one that you like, click on the "Download File" button to begin the download.
- A dialog box will appear asking "Do you want to open or save this file?" and displays the {MAP_NAME}.zip folder (in which your map is sent). Click Save.
- Another dialog box will open asking where you would like to save the file. It doesn't really matter where the file is saved, so long as you can find it again later. For Xp, the Desktop is a safe bet. For Vista / 7 the default Downloads folder will be fine. Select you folder then click Save.
- Wait for the download to complete.
Using Mozilla Firefox 3.6
- On the menu bar click, click Tools > Options. In the General tab under Downloads the "Save files to" option should be selected. The folder displayed next to it is where all of your downloads are saved. The default folder should be fine, but you can change it if necessary. Remember the selected folder, as you'll need to be able to find your downloaded addons there later.
- Find an map you like from GarrysMod.org.
- Once you find one that you like, click on the Download File button to begin the download.

Installing Maps
Key:
- "{STEAM_ACCOUNT_NAME}" symbolises your Steam account name.
- "{MAP_NAME}" resembles the name of your chosen Map.
Instructions:
- You need to find the folder containing the .zip file containing the map. The default on Vista / 7 is the Downloads folder, In Xp the default is the Desktop / My documents.
- Once you have located the {MAP_NAME}.zip file, right click on it and select "Extract all". The Windows Extract Wizard will appear.
- Click Extract.
- A new folder will open, containing a file called {MAP_NAME}.bsp. If there is also a Read-Me file, disregard the rest of these instructions and follow those instead. The .bsp file is your map. Minimise this window for the moment.
- Now you must locate your Garry's Mod save file. Windows Vista / 7: Click Start > Computer > OS (C:). Windows Xp: Click Start > My Computer > C:.
- Then double click: Program Files (or Program Files(x86)) > Steam > steamapps > {STEAM_ACCOUNT_NAME} > garrysmod > garrysmod > maps.
- Leaving that window open, go back to your {MAP_NAME} file, click and drag it into the Garry's Mod maps folder.
- Your map is now installed, and ready for use in-game!
Using the map in-game
- When you start a new game in Garry's Mod (Multi-player or Single-player), your new map will appear in the map list. It normally appears in one of two places: either in the Garry's Mod map list or the Other map list.
- Even when you install your map correctly using the instructions above, it may not work correctly. The map may use textures or props that are not installed on your PC, and the only way to get these props is to have the correct games or prop packs installed.
- For Example: If you only own Garry's Mod & The Orange Box, then you will not be able to use maps that contain Counter Strike: Source props correctly. They will still load and run, but there will be error symbols doted around the map.
