Holographic Radar
This tutorial will show you how to make a Holographic radar, capapable of locking onto any target on any map, no matter how far away they are, and display them using holographic emitters.
You will need:
- Wiremod (The latest SVN release)
- The PhX Model Pack Part 1 and Part 2
- The autosnap addon by Syranide is very useful for getting good looking, clean wiring
Lets Start
Step 1
Firstly, spawn a 1x1 PhX Plate, and tip it vertically using Shift + E, then place a Target Finder on each corner, using different values for what to locate each time, I used Players + NPC's, Locators, Hoverballs and RPG's.
Make sure the last slider (Bogeys) is to something large (I used 30000), the targets to track is at one, and Then spawn a Beacon Sensor (using Split X, Y, Z ONLY) next to each of the Target finders, and wire them up in the traditional way ( right click on the Beacon Sensor first, then the Target Finder.)
Step 2
Next, spawn three divide gates next to each Beacon Sensor, and wire them up in a logical order, ( eg X on the left, Z on the right ect., just to not get yourself confused later on) the A Input goes to the beacon sensor, one X, one Y, one Z and the other goes to a constant value, this value will be the factor of which your picture will shrunk down by (I generally used 30, unless it's a big map, then I use 40), place this constant value in between your two sets of Divides (I'm using two values the same because i'm pedantic and like symmetry), then wire up your B value from the Divide, and connect it to your Constant Value, do this for all of your gates.
Final Step
The logical next step is to make the hologram. Make a holo grid in the middle of the PHX plate. Then make 4 holo emmiters, each of a differnt color next to its respective target finder. Then, right click on a emmiter and then either left or right click on the grid, depending on your gmod setting. If when you click it spawns another emiter, undo and click with the other button. Now just wire up the X,Y,Z coords into each holo emmiter (remeber we divided in the last step) so it comes from its division chip. Now, spawn a wire button wiht on value of 1 and off value of 0, and wire it up to activate (make sure toggle is on). Now spawn another button, on value of 1 and off value of some huge number, and wire it up to fade rate. Now, when you push the on button, it will turn on, and if the fade rate is 10000000 it will show the paths of objects indefinatly, like wise 1 or 0 is not going to show any trail, so edit for your personal preferance. Note: this article was finished by a differnet user, so the image shown above may not ba an accurate representation of the final product, bu it will have the same functionality.
