Type: | Constraint tool |
Primary fire: | Create weld point. |
Secondary fire: | No action |
Notes: | Permanently locks two objects in relative position with each other via an invisible constraint. |
Brief
Welding is one the best tools in all of Garry's Mod. It allows you to attach anything to anything, easily.
Instructions
1. First up, spawn any two objects, in this case, I'm taking a Blast door and a Plasma Screen from CS office.
|
2. Next, pull out that Weld tool from the Constraints menu.

||
3. After that, just click on the objects you wish to weld together, in my case, the plasma screen...
|
4. ...and blast door.

5. Voila! Your two objects are welded together forever! Unless one object is removed or broken, of course.

Variables
- Force Limit
- The amount of force (in pounds) that it takes to break the weld.
- No Collide
- When turned on, the welded objects will pass through each other freely. This allows the avoidance of various physics problems that crop up with welds (such as the well-known "spazzin'out"), but there may be situations where you want the welded objects to interact with each other.
Useful hints
- The physics engine isn't perfect so you might need to make stability welds to the prop.
- When two or more objects are welded together, using the duplicator tool duplicates them all, as welded. This can be useful for building replicated structures or things requiring many of the same items.
- The many other uses of weld are pretty much endless. Weld is the handiest tool for making a fort, and it can even be changed so that the weld can withstand a certain amount of weight.
- Also see easy weld, which attaches the selected props and welds them, rather than freezing them in relation to each other.
- Beware that welding does not immovably join two objects, forces may still stretch the weld, which will break if the force is larger than what you specified as the force limit.
